This was inherited, if was gifted to my parents for their wedding by a very wealthy friend. It is small and lightweight, I don't have the piece with me to measure but I'd say it is about 3.5" in diameter and about 2.5" tall including the feet. It has never been used for anything and has been stored in a padded box for the last (at least) 35 years. Only taken out to take the photos.
~3.5" W x ~2.5" H
Hi Tera,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Even when examined in person, it can sometimes be difficult to accurately assess the age of Pre-Columbian artifacts that may/not have been buried.
That said, this appears to be old and I've given it the benefit of the doubt and - for the purposes of this appraisal - compared it to the recent auction sales of similar three-footed bowls of approximately corresponding size.
The market for Pre-Columbian antiquities is driven by provenance; collectors are still willing to pay high values for pieces that have a documented history. Even truly old objects have a difficult time exceeding the four-figure mark.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique Pre-Columbian style earthenware footed bowl
probably Central America, Possibly 15th Century or earlier
Of circular section with rounded feet, the exterior with traces of original
approximately 2-1/2 inches high, 3-1/2 inches diameter.
CONDITION: This bowl appears to be in generally good age-appropriate condition with some weathering and surface imperfections.
PROVENANCE: Inherited; given to client's parents from a wealthy friend.
$ 200-300*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.
