Smiling Buddha from Shandong Province, China
22 November 2024
Description

Based on the brass material, the dragon motifs, and the style of a smiling Buddha, it is likely that the statue was made during the Qing Dynasty (1644–1912). The statue was given to me in Qingdao, as a gift from a family who owned a antique shop. The owner was a provincial magistrate and gave me the gift for helping his son obtain a student visa and attend a university in the USA.
