This appears to be as you've been told it was, made in the Biedermeier style around 1900. While antique Scandinavian furniture typically attracts less interest from collectors than Midcentury Modern furniture does, this is quite useful and would still appeal for that reason alone.
Comparable pieces have sold at auction recently for between $500 and $1,000.

made in Norway, circa 1900
Of rectangular section, with shaped backboard over five shelves over a molded base molding, raised on short cabriole legs with pad feet.
64 inches tall, 58 inches wide, 12 inches deep
CONDITION: This bookcase appears to be in generally good condition; minor surface scratches are expected commensurate to the age and use of this bookcase.
PROVENANCE: Inherited; acquired in Norway circa 1900
