Description

We have in our possession as a US Springfield Model 1808 Flintlock converted Rifle (possibly model M1795 flintlock converted musket, looks identical to other listings) Inside the rifle, has the engraving “J. Willis” Doing some research, we found a famous musket maker by the name of John Willis from the Era. WILLIS, John — Pennsylvania musket maker to Committee of Safety. In association with Benjamin Town, contracted on Dec. 6, 1775, to make 200 "firelocks" at £4, 5 shillings each. Willis was one of the petitioners to the Committee of Safety at Philadelphia in November, 1775, complaining against the rising cost of materials and labor entering into arms making.
