Standing Thai Buddha
08 June 2020
Description

This piece is not very ornate so I figured that it wasn't of much value, until I saw a few similar pieces online that were valued at a very high price. Based on my internet research, it appears to be a standing Thai Buddha. I wasn't able to find anything with a similar mudra. It is approximately 12" tall and I would assume bronze. The green on the underside is the remnants of a rubber-like material the previous owner attached so as not to scratch the table that it was placed on.

Provenance

Acquired from a collector in Puerto Rico, who I believe purchased it from a dealer. That's all I know about it.

What does this mean?

Dear Meeghan,

Sorry for my late reaction. I didn't notice the pictures arrived already.
You Buddha is indeed made of bronze and is a Circe perdu casting , Its done in one piece which makes better quality casted bronzes without seems. I was a little concerned about the green acid created residu on the bottom. Most of the time when acid is used it is done to create a fake antique look. When I look further on the statue has nice patin and what is more interesting old age characteristics. I do not know what the green residu means but the statue is ok. It made first half 20th century and I would say its an antique ore just about to become one. Its a tall statue with nice expression.
Thanks

Yes. I will have to do it in the morning as it is 1:45 am and there is no sunlight at the moment.

I don't know where I got Tibetan from. All of the web pages I have open say Thai.

When can I expect an appraisal?

As I mentioned in my description: The green on the underside is the remnants of a rubber-like material the previous owner attached so as not to scratch the table that it was placed on.

I understand. Total appearance make me say first half 20th century. The green rubber is not taken largely into consideration.
