Dear Courtney,
Your Buddha is made in China and is IMO not very old. I see them more often and the crackles are artificially done and they used other techniques to give the statue an antique look. Nevertheless I know these statues are doing well in sales rooms and auction houses, partly because some people think it is old and partly because the Chinese art market is doing very well. My estimation is based on prices made in auction houses for more or less the same object ( these are hand carved and hand painted and are never the same ).
thank you, I appreciate the info. I bought it for $30 at auction. At least I know I won't hurt him if I throw a coat of varnish on him and put him the garden, which was my original plan. Then I thought I better check to make sure that's not a bad idea haha.
Appreciate the time and expertise ~
