Hi Marcel,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
I'm not a specialist in Neolithic artifacts but am happy to conditionally defer expertise to the specialists your consulted at the British Museum. What I can say is that other Neolithic European ax-heads that have come to AUCTION in recent years (not that there have been many of them) have sold between $500-1,500, depending on condition and provenance.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A Neolithic carved stone ax head
Scandinavian, circa 6000-5000 BCE
Of tapered form.
Length: 13 cm (5-1/8 inches)
CONDITION: This appears to be in generally good condition
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$ 500-1500*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
