Stone Buddha Statue
Bhudda statue carved out of what appears to be sandstone. Both arms are broken off but are still with the statue. Both hands are in "Mudra" positions. The hair is depicted with almost leaf-shape patterns and is adorned by a three tier tubular hat. Ears are elongated. The top half of the torso is naked. The lower half is covered by lined "shorts" with a decorative belt and what appears to include a knife sheath. The back of the legs/feet have rectangular stone protrusions, presumably to help strengthen the statue. A wooden base is built around the bottom of the statue. It is unknown how much of the 8" wooden base is filled with the stone base of the statue itself.

A beautiful hand-carved sandstone standing of a Cambodian Buddha figure. Judging from the clothing, type and techniques I concluded this piece has a Cambodian style reflected on the figure himself. This male figure is depicted with traditional SE-SW iconographies. One common image of the Buddha from Cambodian iconography depicts him with two bodhisattvas, Lokeshvara (who represents karuna, compassion) and Prajnaparamita (who represents prajna, wisdom). With this rich history, Cambodian Buddhist art and antique Buddha statues are rare items currently.
