Dear Maureen,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be an Imperial Russian "Shashka" sword, with a scabbard and a blade length of 29 inches. . This sword type is typical for Russian cavalry and the ethical groups in the south of Russia. The date 1916 dates this blade into the last year of The Russian Imperium which was dissolved in 1917. The wooden hilt and the scabbard are quite simply decorated which speak for usage by one of the caucasian ethical groups and not usage by an official Russian cavalry member.
This piece is in medium condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 150 to 400 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
