I suspect it's from the army in the 1940's.
My dad recently passed and these items were inherited.
Dear Kenneth,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a sword made in India in the 20th century. This piece was made out of steel and brass and typical for these Indian swords is the lion head at the hilt. Besides the sculptural decor, we see an etched decor and the remark Made in India. Such pieces were made as a tourist souvenir and are often offered and sold in auctions. This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 40 to 80 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
I have added two more close up pics as requested. Thanks
