I have three books by Christophorus Starke (Pastor Primarius Driesnensis) (In The Neumark). One book is dated 1740, one book is dated 1741, and one book is dated 1742. The 1740 book does not have the front hard cover on it. I say the books are in good condition for their age.
The books are 9 inches high, 7.5 inches wide, and 3 inches thick.
Hi Robert Eugene,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. My translation has just come in and I can complete the appraisal for the three volumes...
Two of these books are Christoph Starke's interpretations of the Old Testament and the New Testament, and translate as follows:
Exegetical Library on the Old Testament Concise Extract Of the most thorough and useful interpretations on all books of the Old Testament, with tables, explanations, annotations,
and applications. For a desirable handbook, suitable for church, school, and home use, for instruction, as well as for self-edification for lovers of Holy Scripture.
Second Part, which contains The Book of Joshua, Judges, Ruth, the Books of Samuel and the Kings; Compiled by Christoph Starke, Primary Pastor and Garrison Preacher of the City and Fortress of Driesen. Berlin and Halle, 1742. Available at the Leipzig Fair from B.C. Breitkopf and J.C. Gebauer.
The pages that follow are a dedication to Royal Prince August Wilhelm (with all of his titles and honorifics) and Princess Louisen Amalien.
...and the same for the New Testament (second book):
Synopsis Exegetical Library on the New Testament Concise Extract Of the most thorough and useful interpretations on all books of the New Testament, with tables, explanations, annotations, and applications. For a desirable handbook, suitable for church, school, and home use, for instruction, and for self-edification for lovers of Holy Scripture. Dedicated to
Mr. Johann Gustav Burchard, Highly Honorable and Eminent Senior Official, etc., etc.
by Christoph Starke, Primary Pastor and Garrison Preacher of the City and Fortress of Driesen. Leipzig, Published by Breitkopf. 1749.
With dedications to King Friedrich Wilhelm and Queen Sophia Dorothea.
The third book is:
Exegetical Library on the Old Testament Concise Extract Of the most thorough and useful interpretations on all books of the Old Testament, with tables, explanations, annotations,
and applications, Including reference to the original text and diligent citation of the authors referenced therein. For a desirable handbook, suitable for church, school, and home teaching,
for instruction, as well as for self-edification for lovers of Holy Scripture. With a foreword dedicated to Dr. Johann Bernhard Hasfels, Royal Prussian Consistorial Counselor, Superintendent, and Inspector in Westphalia, and to all other pious lovers of God’s Word.
First Part, which contains
The Five Books of Moses, prepared with the contributions of various scholars, by Christoph Starke, Primary Pastor and Garrison Preacher of the City and Fortress of Driesen. Berlin and Halle, 1741. Available at the Leipzig Fair from B.C. Breitkopf and J.C. Gebauer.sd
A fair-market value for this group would be $800-1,200.
Thank you again for using Mearto.

Good morning, Robert,
I apologize for the delay in finishing this appraisal.
While I've found other copies of the 1742 "Synopsis Bibliothecae Exegeticae in Vetus Testamentum..." by Starke (worth $300-500), I'm not finding the other two. Could they be by another author? The photos of the front pages of the 1740 and 1741 volumes have cut off the authors name.
Thanks to confirm, at your convenience, and happy holidays.
Delia
Dear Madam:
I have attached more pictures of these books which are all by the same author. I believe that I am the only person who has them. In addition you might check the book that you were shown because the last one that was showed me as a 1742 was dated 1743.
Dear Madam:
I hope you understand that I am trying to get an appraisal on these three books as a set not individually. The author died December 12 1744 and I believe this a series of his works done while he was living thus not just a reprint produced after his death by someone else.
Thank You
Mr. Roberts,
I can find no evidence that the same author wrote all three volumes.
The 1742 "Synopsis Bibliothecae Exegeticae in Vetus Testamentum..." by Christoph Starke is worth $300-500.
The others may have similar bindings but that does not mean they were written by the same author; additionally, the photos of the front pages that you've taken/attached to this appraisal do not include the author's name shown with the titles, making it difficult if not impossible to appraise them accurately.
Respectfully,
Delia
Dear Madam:
I attach pictures from the 1740 book showing the author's name as: CHRISTOPH STARKE.
I believe that these books just be might priceless since no one else knows of their existence.
Thank You: Robert Eugene Roberts

Is it OK with you if I reach out to a colleague of mine who is fluent in German who can help advise on what I'm seeing?

They are in German thus I cannot tell you what is in them.
Non of the books are missing any pages.
