What does this mean?

This is a vintage 20th century, about 1930 - 1950s, machine loomed tapestry style wall hanging featuring a shepherdess and flock of sheep in a landscape that is stamped France for where this was produced. In the Medieval and Renaissance eras, tapestries were made by hand on a loom using a warp and a weft and were done in a size to cover a large castle wall. They were essentailly used as insulation in the cold weather months and they were considered more valuable possessions that gold and silver. Machine loomed tapestries are intended as decorative wall art. The color on this has 'gone fleeting' or faded from exposure. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
