What does this mean?

Hi Diane,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
While the covers (lids) are technically separate pieces, this would be called a FOUR-PIECE set: teapot, cream pitcher, sugar bowl and circular tray.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

A vintage silver-gilt porcelain dessert service
made in Germany, mid 20th Century
The pot, pitcher and covered sugar bowl of octagonal section, the white glazed ground elegantly but sparsely decorated with birds and stylized foliate motifs, with an associated and possibly later circular two-handled plate. Pot, pitcher and sugar bowl marked with blue script mark to the bottom; plate marked with a red underglaze circular mark reading "GERMANY."
plate: 11 inches diameter
tea pot 7 inches tall by 7-1/2 inches width across handle & spout
cream pitcher, 5 inches tall by 4 inches across handle
sugar bow 6 inches high, 6 inches width across handles
CONDITION: These appear to be in good condition; value assumes no chips, breaks, repairs or losses.
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$150-250 for the set*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
