What does this mean?

Hello Robert,

I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,

Considering the photographs, overall pattern, ceramic quality and the colours, I concluded that this is an Antique Teco Pottery was produced by the Gates pottery in early 20th century. The piece dates back to the period between 1902-1920. The name Teco comes from the first syllables of Terra and Cotta. From 1885 till 1902 the potteries were not sold commercially and worked sort of like an art movement. The brand kept producing pieces till 1930. The pieces of Teco uses a classic green glaze which is called now a “Teco Green”. Some examples of Teco Green shows what we call a charcoaling effect which is the result of an applied metallic-black overglaze to various pieces. But this is not evident or visible on your piece. Due to it’s paper label from the company we can consider this likely as an early piece, circa 1905. Later pieces usually lack the paper labels. This style of double handed classical vases are widely called “Grecian Vase” while this design was numbered “Model 297” within the company. The piece is quite circular and double handled. The pieces of the pottery line was heavily influenced by the Prairie School movement. The piece has a serial number of C.29. A true collectible and an antique. The piece is in good condition without any visible problems or damage.
