V Giller 1966 signed terracotta pottery
20” tall 7” at the top 41” around at the largest part
Hi Kenneth,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
I've searched several public and subscription pottery databases and have not found any definitive matches to "V. Gillet" but there are several elements to this pottery that suggest it's a studio art pottery piece rather than factory produced: the hand-incised name, the textural, hand-applied surface treatment, and the slightly off-center profile.
As a one-off, or from a potter without a large body of work, this would likely sell at auction for between $100-150, in line with other studio terracotta vases of similar size by little-well known makers. It's worth noting that some retailers would price this at about $250.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
Studio art pottery terracotta vase
signed "V. Gillet", dated 1966
of circular section and ovoid form, with rounded rim and tapered foot, the sides with hand-modeling and bronzed and ebonized glaze; foot inscribed "V. Gillet" and dated 1966
20 inches tall
CONDITION: this appears to be in good condition
PROVENANCE: acquired in a second-hand store
$100-150*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
