The item is mahogany Charles and Diana wedding commemorative table. Prince of Wales Crest Feather with silhouette of Charles and Diana's profile either side. Unknown if my grandfather purchased it or was a gift as he passed away a few years after the Royal wedding and my mother passed 4 years ago, with my father passing last month. Unsure if it was a special gift of some sort as my great grandfather was the first Dutch Consul General to Australia (pictured as #234 in Tom Roberts 'Big Picture' painting of first parliament) and unsure if my grandfather still had any ties or relationships associated with that? Please contact me on 0431 534 509 if you require any further clarification. Kindest regards Bruce Allen

Hi Bruce,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Of all of the commemorative objects made in honor of the wedding between Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in 1981, this is the first piece of furniture I've ever seen and I can't find anything else like it.
The oval hinged-top table is the form commonly known now as a "breakfast table"; this was a form that was introduced during the late 18th and early 19th Century in England, in the Regency period. When similar tables that old come to auction, they usually bring about $600-$1,000, depending on the grain of the wood, design of the inlay, etc.
Tables in the same style but made in the 20th Century generally don't bring quite that much money when sold at auction; more likely $300-500 or $400-600, again depending on their design, etc.
Starting at that lower level and considering the appeal the Royal Wedding continues to have (despite the painful separation, divorce and Diana's untimely death) the value of this table would probably be upgraded by a factor of between 5 and 10, leaving a speculative value of $2,000-3,000.
To maximize the reach, I would suggest selling this in an auction that has other Royal memorabilia or commemorative items...if you want to sell it. Otherwise, it's a great table and I hope you enjoy having it.
