What does this mean?

Hi Jakub,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

“Vetri Artistici” literally means artistic glass in Italian. In Murano, the island off Venice that has, for centuries, been know for its glass production. This term refers broadly to handmade, artistically crafted glassworks — not mass-produced souvenirs — created by master glassmakers using age-old techniques passed down through generations.

The form and decoration of this goblet, with its amber/gold bowl and clear bullicante stem with controlled bubbles, is characteristic of mid-20th Century production and was made by several workshops, including Seguso Vetri d’Arte, Fratelli Toso, AVeM (Arte Vetraria Muranese),Vetreria Vistosi and Cristalleria d’Arte Nason. There is a fairly broad differentiation in value among these different makers and would be worth more if it were signed on the underside or top edge of the foot.

Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

A vintage Midcentury Modern Murano gilt and clear glass centerpiece vase
unattributed maker, Murano, Italy, mid 20th Century
With gold/amber bubbled glass bowl and clear bullicante stem, on a circular gold/amber foot. Labeled "Vetri Artistici".
Height 31cm (12-1/4 inches); diameter: 19.5cm (7-5/8 inches)
CONDITION: Generally in good condition with some minor scratches to base commensurate to wear and age.
PROVENANCE: Acquired at a flea market
$ 150-250*

Jakub,
If you discover a signature on this, please let me know as it may have greater value than an unattributed centerpiece vase.
Thanks,
Delia
