This item was found encased in a wooden and glass box, with wires holding it down where the holes are drilled. It is hollow but had nothing stashed inside. It has an inscription on the back which a Tibetan speaker told me was in the very old "Lenza" script, which they said is not in use so they could not translate it. They also told me this was the Buddha “Amitayus” or Buddha of Limitless Life associated with meditations and mantras for a long life. It is silver in color but has green oxidation. I have not had the metal tested yet. 10 cm height 7 cm width 5 cm depth
Unknown provenance. Came from a thrift store.
Dear Lylana,
Although the story behind this statue is quite interesting the age and value or not. Its a quite common (sand) casted statue depicting maitreya buddha; the future Buddha of this world. You can easily find more about this feminine Buddha on Google / literature. Its not very old ( second half 20th century ) and the vasting is not well done and that reflects on the price. Nevertheless given the story I can imagine that you would not want to sell it anyway.
