Hello Jack,
I’m glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal request,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, glass quality and the composition,
I concluded that this is a beautiful pair of Murano Glass Toso Birds from 1980-2000 period. The pair is marked with a label which indicates that they are Murano Glass made in Italy. Birds do seems like they were made in a satisfactory quality for more recent Murano Glass works. They were probably bought as touristic gifts or memories and brought back to United States.
Gold leaf decoration heavily dominates the glass bodies of the birds. Pinkish transition of the tails from the white-ish golden bodies are very lovely in terms of colour use in glass. Murano Glass truly has an ancient history which has decreased in quality nowadays in general terms. Of course it is not possible to compare most of the current pieces to pieces from early 20th century. Still there are few producers with very highly skilled craftsman. Your pieces requires an experienced artist since the leafs inside the glass is very hard to shape and manage. This is an evidence that your piece was truly made in Italy and is not a fake.
