I inherited this item and seem to recall being told it is made of jade though it seems to me it could be glass or plastic. It has a sticker on the bottom of its base that says "Made in China". I would like to learn what material it is made of please and obtain an estimate of its value is US dollars please.
Approximately 15" high x 12" wide.
Hello, this item is a decorative bonsai-style tree sculpture produced in China during the late 20th century, most likely between the 1970s and 1990s. The piece combines a natural wood trunk with molded decorative leaves attached to wire branches, mounted in a shallow oval planter with simulated gravel. The “Made in China” export sticker confirms it was manufactured for the international decorative gift and home décor market rather than as a traditional studio-crafted jade object. The red foliage does not appear to be jade. Instead, the leaves are more consistent with dyed resin, plastic, or lightweight composite material designed to imitate carved hardstone foliage. Similar decorative bonsai arrangements became highly popular export pieces and were widely sold through department stores, gift shops, and import retailers throughout North America and Europe.
Condition appears generally good overall, with the branching structure remaining intact and the arrangement retaining strong decorative presence. Minor wear and dust accumulation are visible, which is common for objects of this type and age. While visually attractive, these decorative bonsai sculptures are not considered fine jade carvings or high-value mineral artworks, especially when constructed with mixed media and commercial export materials. Larger examples such as this one do retain moderate decorative value due to their scale and visual impact. Based on comparable sales in the current secondary market, the fair market value would likely range between $80 and $180 USD.
