55” x 76” oriental carpet. Appears to be hand woven, wool. It has had ends restored from wear. This restoration was done in the early ‘90’s. I have included the card of the woman who restored the rug. She has since passed away.
My parents bought a house with contents in 1960. The previous owner travelled extensively in the early 1900’s. His house was full of items from the Far East and Orient. This rug was stored in a cedar closet from the late ‘60’s until the present. It was brought out/repaired in the early ‘90’s but put back in storage. I am now liquidating a few things and need to know where and how much it is worth.
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be an antique rug from western Iran, best described as Sanandaj or Senneh rug, with a repetitive boteh pattern and a rather unique border. These kurdish rugs are rather sophisticated in design compared to other kurdish rugs. The playful designs are tasteful and combine both persian and kurdish patterns. The rug in your possessions appears to be in good condition. Currently prices for persian rugs are low, the political difficulties at the moment might lead to an increase in value in the near future. The estimate is based on recent auction results. "Asking prices" in the trade can be much higher and vary.
