Metal sword, heavy patina on the blade with floral(?) designs and looks to be bluing as well. Handle is possibly bone with dog heads on each side, a bore's head in the center and a deer on the guard. Total sword length is 29".
Inherited from grandparents about 30 years ago. Hung as decoration in their house but unknown before that point.
Dear Walter,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. So that I may best assist you, can you have a look if there are any hallmarks on the blade and make an image of them?
With kind regards,
Georg
Dear Walter,
Thank you for the additional images and your patience.
The presented object appears to be a hunting knife with the measurements of 29 inches length. The blade is blued and decorated with a partially gilding. The shape reminds of German hunting knives of the late 19th and 20th centuries.
This piece is in medium condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 80 to 180 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
Georg, I apologize for the poor photo quality in the first set of pictures. Was able to get a few better shots and added them. I wasn't able to identify any hallmarks on the blade but I tried to get some pictures that showed the blade details better. Thank you.
