What does this mean?

Hi Aaron,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

Saint Nicholas holds a highly revered place in the Russian Orthodox Church, celebrated as Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker (Святой Николай Чудотворец). He is one of the most venerated saints in Eastern Orthodoxy and is honored as the patron saint of sailors, merchants, children, and travelers, as well as a defender of the Orthodox faith.

Saint Nicholas was a 4th-century bishop of Myra (modern-day Demre in Turkey).
Known for his piety, humility, and generosity, he became famous for numerous miracles and acts of charity during his life. He is credited with saving sailors during storms, delivering justice to the innocent, and providing for the needy in secret.
One of his most famous deeds involved secretly giving gold to save three daughters of a poor man from being sold into servitude, which contributed to his association with gift-giving.

In Russian Orthodoxy, Saint Nicholas is seen as a protector of the faithful and a powerful intercessor with God. He is second only to the Theotokos (Mother of God) in terms of veneration. Icons of Saint Nicholas are ubiquitous in Russian churches and homes, depicting him with a serene expression, often holding a Gospel book and making a blessing gesture. His major feast days are celebrated on December 6/19 (Julian/Gregorian calendar) commemorating his death, and May 9/22, marking the transfer of his relics to Bari, Italy.

The label on the back also identifies this as a 20th Century copy of a mid 19th Century icon. While I'm not finding any record of the Januax Frejtak workshop, comparably sized 20th Century St. Nicholas icon replicas usually sell for between $300-500.

Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
