Austria Eine Arufruoent
Unknown
Hello Anne,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, painting quality and the marks, I concluded that this is a Royal Vienna Style porcelain vase made in early 20th century. Your piece is entirely hand painted, all the decoration including the gilt are works of a porcelain master for sure. After the Royal Vienna factory ended their production in 1864 many individual artists and some previous workers of the Royal Vienna Factory started producing their own pieces. This period starting from 1864 and lasted to early 20th century gave birth to many important pieces and artists of porcelain art.
Your piece is a member of these pieces. The writing under the piece says "Eine Aufwrantung", it might be translated as "An Uprising". Pieces of Vienna ecole often had hand writings like this underneath them explaining their depictions or naming their paintings on the porcelain piece. This piece depicts two woman figures and a crane ina natural scene. Semi-handles of the piece are in Art-Nouveau style. The painting quality is very advanced and has an incredible artistic quality. The Vienna mark underneath is rarely seen, and probably a secondary mark for this piece. The original mark of the porcelain body is probably under the gilt on the bottom. Since the Royal Vienna factory was closed, later artists used differrent brands of porcelain to paint on. There is a familiar piece on my archives with a signature of the artist "J. Gunt". If this piece has a signature on the painting you could share and I could evaluate further. Also you could add the dimensions.
