Hello Stan,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, mark and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Painted Japanese Satsuma Vase painted with Moriage Technique. Dating back to 1950-1970 period. These Satsuma pieces have very characteristic designs in terms of decoration. The Moriage Technique is also a well known technique of the 20th century. It is applied with a relief kind of paint to create a three dimensional look on the vase. The priest figures of the Satsuma Moriage vases are a classic motif, they almost always appear in the same shape and design, even the clothes. In addition, your piece appears to have two handles that we usually see in larger pieces. Base color is a dark green, also common in Moriage vases. On the front we also see a noble Japanese woman depiction, on the back there is only a depiction of the priest. This priest usually has frowning eyebrows in contemporary pieces. We can see some applied golden decoration with little care, the precision of the overall painting is low and the quality is average.
Entirely hand painted.
