Vase

Description

Bottom looks like crockery but sounds like ceramic when tapped...Looks like it has been hand painted...Don't know the origin as it was part of my mother's possessions when she died. This vase is 8 inches high and diameter is 2 3/4 inches...

What does this mean?

Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal and please excuse the delay. This piece is a bit exotic and such are not very common at auction. It appears to be a tunisian pottery vase, handpainted with geometric patterns and dots, slightly similar to art noveau pottery, but most likely made in the last quarter of the 20th century. The shape and type of footrim and the dotted patterns are typical for this region in North Africa. It might have been a travel souvenir or just a present. The estimate is based on similar available in the trade. The sentimental value the vase might represent to you can´t be measured.
