Set of 11 chairs, two of which are arm chairs. We were told they were stuffed with horsehair. The wood is carved with a white stain.
Bought from Kasdens in Redondo Beach in the mid 1970’s
This is a set of late 19th century, French limed oak wood Louis style chairs with cabriole legs and stretcher bars at the base. Liming is the process in which the wood is surface treated to appear white washed. The seats and backs are upholstered in a burnt orange/scarlet velvet type textile, although they are possibly horsehair stuffed, the upholstery appears to have been replaced sometime in the Mid 20th century. The estimate is for all 11 chairs together and is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables.
Let me know if these pictures are adequate.
Please add well-lit clear images of the underside of a chair and any hardware (nailheads/screws) so I can see the joinery of the leg to seat frame.
