I believe this is also known as a fainting sofa. Good upholstery. About 5 feet long
Grandmother’s living room
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a victorian or 1870s - 1900 fainting couch in the rococo revival style. The fainting couch design was based on the Recamiere design but also offers a backrest, raised on one end. The couch in your possession features two large C-shaped Rocaille ornaments, a foot rest and turned wood legs with brass casters. These so called "fainting couches" were very much en vogue in the late 19th century, apparently used because of ill-fitting corsets, which might be true or not. Similar couches have been sold at auction. The estimate is based on recent auction results. There is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to it.
We only offer an appraisal service, but I noticed that people actually successfully sell items thru this site, so keep it posted.
I received an email that someone commented on my item but I don’t see it? Can you please help?
Hi Kathy, please excuse the late response, I assume this was just a second automatic response connected to my previous message. So if you get another e-mail by the system simultaneously, please ignore. As far as I know people do get connected directly.
OK. So if someone is interested they will email me?
Thank you, Klaus. Do you purchase these pieces as well? Or appraise only?
