This is a nice chair; it would likely have been part of a much larger set of seating furniture that would probably have included another armchair as well as a couple of side chairs and maybe even a settee. The style is Renaissance Revival, which was made as early as 1865 and continued up until the early 20th Century. It was made by several manufacturers in the United States; if yours is stamped or labeled by one of the following firms (Pottier & Stymus, Herter Bros, Roux, Kimbal & Cabus, Jelliff or Horner) it could be worth more than the value I've appraised it at so if you can find a label or stamp/brand please let me know and I will re-evaluation.
This style of furniture is, unfortunately, not very popular at the moment and these pieces do not bring very much money at auction. Here are a few recent sales to give you an idea of the going rate, and which I've based my valuation on:
