Nguyen Dynasty 19th century Guom. Not a ceremonial piece. This was made for actual fighting. In fair condition with some looseness in the handle and the scabbard is missing the Chape.

Recent auction sales of Guoms of similar age reflect the market's interest and support of more elaborate examples; in comparison, yours reflects its utilitarian purpose and is fairly plain though its design features the characteristic tiger-head pommel. Similar pieces have sold recently for between $200-400.

An antique brass and steel Vietnamese Guom
19th Century
The hilt with shaped wooden handle with brass tiger's head pommel and shaped strap guard, the slightly curved blade. Together with a leather scabbard with brass locket (lacking chape).
78 cm (30-3/4 inches) overall length
CONDITION: This saber is reported - and appears - to be in generally fair condition with some looseness to the handle. The leather scabbard is lacking the chape (tip).
