I found this description from your website and it fits this sailboats description! It’s just one size smaller. A vintage assembled horn single wooden masted clipper ship American or European, possibly 19th Century. The body of a ship rendered from a cow's horn, with headmast, foremast, staymast, topmast and mizzen mast suspended on thick string like cords with a single mast thats wooden. All on a convex bone base.
9x6in high and wide
Hi Carli,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
While the sails of this this ship look like they're made of bone, the base appears to be made from a (blackened) whale's tooth, which, because selling whale's teeth is protected, may make it difficult for you to sell it though it is not illegal to own. If you are interested in selling this, check with your local fish and game (or wildlife) agencies, to see if it's permissible to sell .
In areas where it's legal to sell these, bone and tusk-made ships of this size typically sell for around $100.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage carved horn and whale tusk ship
20th Century
The hull made from an ebonized tusk with four shaped horn sails with string rigging connected through a top mast.
9 inches high, 6 inches wide
CONDITION: This appears to be in good condition
PROVENANCE: Inherited
