I received this dress from a wealthy friend. It was her Mom's. Her Mom traveled alot in Europe in the 1960's and 70's. I believe it is a jean paul gaultier dress. It feels like a kind of spandex material. It is an xs and says made in Italy. It is about 36 inches long, 14 to 15 inches wide.
I received it from Julie Riff (Minnesota). It was her mother's. I can't recall her mother's name, but could find it if I really tried.
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a beautiful dress. Such vintage designer clothes are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
You are quite right that the logo is Jean Paul Gaultier. The dress is very vivid with the many colours and interesting design. I would say that the dress is from the later part of the 1900s, however it is difficult with designers like Gaultier and Westwood as they tend to go their own ways so there is not really anything usual about them.
Designer clothes are popular on the second hand market however it is important that they are in good condition without signs of wear and use.
I believe that this fancy Gaultier dress would attract the attention of both collectors and dealers if it came up for auction.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online designer clothes auction, where I believe the Gaultier dress has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the dress. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you
Did you mean that the dress was from the later part of the 1900's or did you mean the 1960's or 70's?
Thanks again!
Thank you for your comment. The dress is from the last quater of the 1900s that is 1970s.
Kind regards
Thank you so much! The information is very helpful!
