I think it is a Turkish pistol maybe an officers saddle pistol. Im not for sure when and where is it from. Also it has a lot of rust, is there anything i can do to get rid of some of the rust so the value will go up?

Dear customer,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a flintlock pistol probably made in the late 17th or 18th century. The stock was made out of nut wood and has carvings and inlay decor. The design and the decor are a hint that this pistol was made in Europe. The barrel has an additional etching decor and there are signs visible which could be interpreted as Arabian letters. This could be a European produced pistol that was captured in one of the numerous military conflicts between the expanding Osman Empire and the European states. The etching with the Arabian letters would be done in a second step to mark this change of property.
Works by this artist were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in medium condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 400 to 800 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
Dear customer,
Thank you for your email. The value would not change because even if you clean the rust off the corrosion of the metal surface is still visible.
With kind regards,
Georg
