Many thanks for submitting photographs and information on the wine pickers basket. Before proceeding with the appraisal, I have a few additional questions. First, can you confirm how many baskets you need values for? It appears from the photographs you submitted that there are three--two with leather straps and one with the painted label? Additionally, can you please provide approximate dimensions (height x width x depth) for each?

The appraised work is a set of three Harvester baskets likely from the late 19th / early 20th century. The baskets were used to gather grapes in the vineyards throughout wine producing regions in France. Many baskets were fastened with leather straps to be worn on the back for ease and functionality and some were hand-painted with the vineyard’s insignia. Harvest baskets were often manufactured in tole or wood. The appraised works’ condition is overall good and commensurate with age. Two of the baskets have leather straps that show signs of wear and there are visible dents on both tole baskets and surface scratches on the wooden basket. The estimate provided is based on comparable examples recently sold at auction. In many cases, pricing for similar items offered on the primary (retail) market vary and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.

The all brown one is 34” high 30” wide and 17” depth
