Believe this to be a vintage Gucci saddle bag. Maybe 70’s or 80’s. It has a gold “Gucci Made in Italy” stamp, and the gold tone Gucci charm. Cannot locate a serial number. Condition is fair with some light ink marks on interior. I believe there may have also been a gold tone logo on the hardware closure that has warn off.

Hi Kathleen,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The charm shown—an antiqued gold-tone shield with a classical figure and raised GUCCI lettering—was most commonly used by Gucci during the late 1960s through the 1970s, and into the early 1980s on certain equestrian-inspired and saddle-style bags. By the late 1980s, Gucci shifted toward simpler logo plaques and cleaner zipper pulls, making this style strongly associated with the vintage 1970s era.
This particular style - which Gucci called "Jackie" - was originally introduced in the late 1940s–1950s as a soft hobo-style shoulder bag, it became internationally famous in the 1960s when Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was repeatedly photographed carrying it. The press began calling it “the Jackie,” and Gucci eventually adopted the nickname officially.
It's relaxed crescent silhouette contrasted with rigid 1950s handbags and helped define Gucci’s identity as effortless, jet-set Italian luxury and remains one of the house’s most successfully revived archival designs.
The design has been rereleased since the 70s but authentic Jackie bags from the 60s and 70s are generally considered rare and desirable by collectors. If this were to come to auction, in 'as is' condition it would probably sell for between $300 and $500, though retailers selling refurbished truly vintage examples for $800 or more.
