"She Ain't Heavy" is a bronze sculpture of a young male child holding a young gal up in the air so she can pick an apple. It is cast bronze and 58" tall from the floor to the very top. Some of the bronze is colored, the garments, hair, twig an apple, the skin is bronze. This piece weighs about 80 pounds, my estimate.
We bought this in Scottsdale Az. at an art store - my cost $15,000 delivered. The purchase was probably around 1985 (Walter Horton was still alive) and we are the only owner.
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. According to your description of the item this appears to be a variegated patinated bronze statue of a boy lifting a girl to grab an apple. A comparable statue was offered at auction ten years ago. The boy holds the girl at her upper legs, it has her left hand on his right upper arm, extending her right hand to grab an imaginary apple, both are barefeet. This bronze didn´t sell at an estimate of 1500-2000 USD. Other bronzes by Walter Horton (1949-2010) of comparable size usually sell in the 1000-3500 USD range. The estimate is based on auction results of items sold. Prices in the trade are usually higher and can vary. If you calculate every moment of joy while looking at the sculpture with one dollar each, I assume the purchase was a good investment. Despite the current market value.
