A series of 5 drawings (8x11) depicting a lady getting ready to go out in the morning. Buyer said she bought at a gallery in New York. All are signed by Helen.
Bought secondhand
This is a vintage, 20th century, about 1940, series of 5 relatively simple line drawings with gouache or watercolor paint that are signed 'Helen'. The series is risque in depiction and shows a young blonde woman in her 'getting ready to leave the house' routine. These are illustrative in style. The artist signing 'Helen' used what can be presumed as only her first name (likely because of the risque nature of the works). There are no listed artists with the last name of Helen. There is an American illustrator, Helen Hokinson (1893 - 1949), who did cartoons for The New Yorker Magazine, and these bear a resemblance to her work and could possibly be attributed. The estimate is for the 5 images altogether and is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
