Lintel is 11 3/8" High, 33 1/2" Long and about 2 1/4" Wide.
I inherited the wood lintel on 12/23/2009 from my Mother. She inherited it from her aunt C. F. Johnson who acquired it while living in Madras, India during the 1950's.
Dear Robert,
I believe your lintel is made in India in the 19th century. Although it is likely it was in the open air this lintel still is in good shape. It appears to be satin wood what was used often for these purposes. It looks like the a Hindu religious depiction with the central figure of of Shiva and Elephants. It is nicely carved. There is demand for these type of wood carvings for decorative purposes and also for collectors of Indian antiques.
