Wood Ox (possibly a bull) on wheels No pull string attached Half of body cavity slides open for a surprise storage space inside body

Dear Rhonda,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry again and I hope you are well and healthy.
The presented object appears to be a bull-shaped wooden statue on wheels with a height of around 9 1/2 inches. The depicted animal is a water buffalo and the used wood which is probably Mango tree wood indicates a localization to India or South Asia. Also, the brass metal applique correlates in its design to comparable objects from India. The storage could be used for sacrifices and water buffalos are common as guardian statues in the numerous Indian temples. This piece was made in the second half of the 20th century.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 40 to 100 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
