Dark solid wood sculpture attributed to Gio Ponti in the late 20s - early 30s. Very elegant and in the form of a horse. Wear consistent with age and use. Sculpture is in good and original vintage condition, slight - scratches and light wear consistent with its time and use.

Gio Ponti, the renowned Italian architect and designer, is best known for his work in architecture, furniture, and decorative arts. While he designed many sculptural and decorative objects, his involvement in carved animal figures is not widely documented. That said, there are a number of similar horse statues of comparable size attributed to him that have come to auction in recent years; they have brought prices ranging from $500-700. Because of the surface scratches, yours is worth $400-600

The horse with hocked mane and tail in a fully-extended standing position, presumably unmarked.
