Wood sign, probably redwood, with writing for Sun Valley Lodge in Sun Valley, Idaho. The sign has cursive writing on one side of Sun Valley Lodge, which may have been the original sign. On the opposite side of the sign, there is a different font of writing for Sun Valley Lodge. This writing appears to be gold leaf. The sign appears to be original as-is condition. This would have to be a one-off piece. The sign was obtained over 25 years ago from a worker at Sun Valley , Idaho. I have viewed pictures of the sign hanging from the Sun Valley Lodge. Sun Valley resort was established in 1936 by Union Pacific railroad.
95" wide x 26" tall x 2" thick.
Hi John,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Antique signs, often made from materials like porcelain, tin, or wood, are collectible items that evoke nostalgia and historical charm. Originally used for advertising products, businesses, or services, they feature vintage typography, logos, and artwork. These signs can range from gas stations and soda brands to farm equipment and general stores. Their weathered appearance and unique patina add to their appeal, making them sought-after pieces for collectors and decorators seeking a rustic or retro aesthetic.
Lodge signs are a niche within this category and while I've not found a duplicate sign that has been sold at auction (further concluding this is a unique sign), ones most closely comparable in size, format, decoration and age all bring prices ranging from $200-1,000. Your sign is worth within that range, from $400-600.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
