It looks like walnut wood, it's very heavy and sturdy. Has handmade dovetails in the drawers. It has a patent stamp of 523, I look it up in the US Biddingtons Catalog, its says 1837 I would like to know value and verify the age. Someone tried to refinish with green and white paint.

Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a late 19th century writing desk, made from solid and laminated plywood. Plywood was introduced to the United States in the late 1860s. The top layer of the plywood on the table top is partly missing at the edges. The number is possibly just an internal production number of the furniture company. The highly ornate design of the corners and the feet was popular at the end of the 19th to the early 20th century. The manufacturer is not known. Due to changes in lifestyle desks are in lesser demand today. The estimate is based on similar items offered or sold at auction.
Part of the tabletop is plywood, this avoids stress splits. By definition the 20th century lasted from the 1st of January 1901 to the 31st of december 2000. Therefore "end of the 19th century to early 20th century" describe the years from 1880-1920. Another term to describe the era would be "Belle Epoque".

I'm confused you're saying this piece is made out of plywood?
And made in the late 90's and early 2000's?
