We believe this is an original watercolor painting by listed Italian artist Giovanni Ospitali. The subject is a rooftop panorama of Florence — the word "Firenze" is written in the lower left of the painting, along with what appears to be "Panorama." The artist's signature is in the lower right. Inherited from a family friend. Note: we are unsure of the full painting dimensions as the mat/frame may be covering additional portions of the work — the visible image area is approximately 12" x 15". The frame is in great condition. The back shows the original cardboard/paper backing which is aged with some tears and wear consistent with age. Two labels are present on the back: - Rose Frame Shop, Ferndale, Michigan, dated May 1, 1959 — indicating the painting was framed or re-framed on that date and therefore predates 1959 - "Belew, 1525 Cherboneau, Detroit, Michigan 48207" — the prior owner's (deceased) address label, suggesting the painting was previously owned in Detroit before coming to California. Bought by the owner in Italy.
