Monumental Louis XV style French provincial marriage armoire, circa 1750–1780. Carved solid European walnut case with secondary fruitwood/pine back and drawer components. Structural & Joinery Specifications: • Arched bonnet pediment featuring carved rococo marriage cartouche and floral garland crest. • Floating two-tier vertical back panel construction set in pegged mortise-and-tenon frame; hand-dressed planks with adze and scrub plane tooling. • Original hand-forged wrought-iron cremone locking bolt mechanism with pierced trefoil backplates and dual deadbolts. • Pierced brass door escutcheon affixed with hand-driven pin brads. Interior waist drawers built with single wide hand-cut dovetails pinned with wooden treenails, hand-chamfered solid bottom boards, and period French graphite script. • Center waist drawer features a surface-mounted wrought-iron lock box secured with hand-hammered rosehead rivets. Condition: • Structurally sound with honest historic patination. • The unmounted carved crown pediment has an older, stable wooden repair brace on the reverse • Original operating key is absent.
