Previous owner was from England, she claimed she was given the piece of furniture from a family member before moving from England to the US. She said it’s a 19th century hand carved piece, but that’s all she knows about it. Had to sell it because it was too heavy to take back to England.
This is an antique, late 19th century to early 20th century, hand carved and hand built wooden sideboard that is made in the Anglo-Indian manner. The wood does appear to be oak, which would be natural to England and not India; however the brass handles, and carved design along with the open center register with gallery top beneath the 2 middle drawers is in the Indian manner. This was possibly made in India using English materials or made in England by a woodworker trained in the Indian manner. This is not uncommon given the British Colonial Occupation of India from 19th century through mid 20th century. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
