I'm not sure if this piece came from my paternal grandmother, who was a wealthy industrialist with a taste for art and nice furniture, or my maternal grandfather, who ran an independent, quality furniture store in Providence. I was told that it is a Chippendale-style mahogany tilt-top tea table; based on the hardware, they believed it might well be period or early antique. Note: it does not tilt. I did not see a maker's mark. There is a similar smaller piece (with the brown surface covering); I included a snap of that in case it helps.
