Purchased from Noori's Collection in Aspen, CO a few years ago where they provided an appraisal that stated it was from the 1970s and valued at approx. $5000. In very good condition and I'm looking at a value because I plan on selling it in the near future.
Purchased from Noori's Collection in Aspen, CO and the owner stated that it was an item he and his wife brought back from Afghanistan during a buying trip in the 1970s or 1980s.
Dear Benjamin,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. Your rug is an Afghanistan War Map rug. Meaning that it falls into the genre of war rugs, but this appears to be a map of the eastern world. It is not uncommon to find war rug maps of Afghanistan, but not of the eastern hemisphere. The countries and or provenances appear to be labeled in Farsi. The rug itself was made in the 20th century and is in good condition. It is handwoven out of wool on cotton backing. Based on recent price realizations for rugs similar to yours, a fair market estimate would be between 200 and 2000 US dollars.
Best Regards,
Morgan
