Based on my research, I believe this to be an Albert Schweitzer bronze bust. The bronze bust itself measures approximately 14 in high when you include the hreen marble base that it sits on it is a total of 17 and a half inches approximately. The complete weight of the entire bust is 24 lb 0.04 oz. The bust when tapped on with a metal object makes a pinging sound, is cold to the touch, and my hand smell like a metal after holding it. I am including images of the foundry mark, and initials which I believe to be FB for Fritz Behn. The initials are located on the bust if looking at it from the rear on the left lower corner of the piece I am trying to receive confirmation that all of this information is true and correct.Thank you!
Bust 14 inches. Total piece with marble base 17.5 inches. Weight 24 pounds 0.04 ounces
Hello, this item is a cast bronze portrait bust depicting Albert Schweitzer, mounted on a green marble base, executed in a realistic academic style typical of mid 20th century commemorative sculpture. Based on the modeling of the facial features, surface finish, and overall presentation, this appears to be a posthumous bronze produced circa 1950s to 1970s, created for educational, institutional, or private commemorative purposes rather than as a unique fine art original. Albert Schweitzer was widely memorialized after receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952, and numerous bronze busts were produced during this period by European and American foundries for schools, churches, hospitals, and collectors. The visible casting texture, natural brown patina, and marble plinth are consistent with commercially cast bronzes of that era. The small stamped initials visible on the bronze indicate foundry or model marks rather than authorship by a known master sculptor, and there is no evidence here of a documented Fritz Behn original or limited artist edition.
Condition appears good overall, with stable patina, light surface wear, and minor oxidation spotting consistent with age, along with small chips and staining to the marble base. There are no signs of structural damage or major repairs. From a market perspective, mid century commemorative bronze busts of Albert Schweitzer of this size typically trade between USD 600 and USD 1,200 depending on casting quality, condition, and presentation.
