The Smithsonian American Art Museum's biographical database identifies Emanuel Schary (1924–1994) as an Israeli-American artist best known for realistic paintings, pastels, drawings, lithographs and serigraphs depicting Jewish life, New York City, and ordinary people. He was born in Haifa, then British Mandate Palestine, and died in Rock Hill, New York. The Smithsonian American Art Museum recognizes him as an American artist.

A website dedicated to his work notes his work was influenced by his Jewish heritage and his experience of American urban life. His subjects include: Rabbis and Jewish scholars, Orthodox Jewish life and religious study, elderly people and working people, New York street scenes and neighborhood life, portraits, Israeli subjects and landscapes, and Biblical and Jewish themes. In that website, his son describes him as deeply connected to Judaism and says that his reading of the Torah, Bible stories, Psalms and poetry was a major source for his art. His son has compared his approach to the tradition of the Old Masters, and that comparison makes some sense when looking at his interest in faces, gesture, character and intimate human situations.

Schary is probably better represented in today's secondary market by prints than by his original paintings. According to his family's archive, he made his first etchings in the early 1960s, studied lithography with Burr Miller of George Miller & Sons around 1964–65, and produced approximately 80 lithographic editions over the following 18 years. He later made six serigraphs between 1980 and 1983.

I haven't been able to uncover the story behind his lithograph "Yesterdays" but according to the online fine art auction result database Artprice, three from this edition (175) have come to auction, all selling within $75 and $125.
