My great grandmother gave me a doll that I was told was my grandmother’s when she was a child in the 1930-1940 time frame. I don’t know much about it before that. I’ve had it for 30 years. I believe the clothing was made by my grandmother as she was a seamstress. I cannot find markings to identify other than markings on the legs. She has porcelain head, hands, lower legs, and feet with soft cloth body. Her height is about 22 and half inches. The only thing I can figure is 1905 because of her hair style. Any info would be appreciated.
Given to me 30 years ago by great grandmother and was told it was my grandmother’s when she was a child which would have been 1930-1940 era. I’m wondering if she may have restored it at some time and I think the clothing is not original but is still very old.
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a cute doll. However after having examined the photos very carefully we have come to the conclusion that it is not an antique porcelain doll - it is a doll that was made to look as an antique doll. It was probably made as a kind of souvenir to resemble an old doll. The way the dolls face is modelled and the colours of the paint in the face are not the way antique dolls were made and painted.
During the late 20th century there were made several artist dolls by various dollmakers.
The sentimental value it represents to you will be much higher than the market value.
I am very sorry for the unfortunate news.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
